🍇 Vendor Spotlight – Newstead Lane Estate 🍇

The start of Autumn heralds the ripening of grapes. Yum!

Meet Mahala Reynolds and her daughter Faith (not pictured here), who has been by her mum’s side at the Market since she was just two years old. Together they bring the freshest flavours of the season to us at their Newstead Lane Estate stall.

You’ll find sweet, juicy table grapes in favourites like Albany Surprise, White Diamond and Red Cardinal — all proudly spray-free. Even better, Mahala packages them in eco-friendly cardboard, keeping sustainability front of mind.

She loves the balance that market life brings — working alongside her family in the vineyards and connecting with customers each Saturday. While her husband is a winemaker by trade, he is currently focused on growing premium wine grapes such as Chardonnay and Albariño for other winemakers (with a little homemade wine for their own table too!).

They also grow beautiful Meyer lemons and navel oranges on their 12-hectare property,

Don’t miss your chance — table grape season wraps up this month. Make a beeline for Mahala and Faith’s stall this Saturday and taste the difference! 🍇

🥬 Vendor Feature: Mr. and Mrs. Ng Vegetable Stall 🥬

As we celebrate 20 years of the Gisborne Farmers Market, it’s only fitting we feature one of our longest-standing vendors — Mr. and Mrs. Ng.

Proudly one of the market’s oldest stallholders, the Ngs have been part of our story for many years. Originally market gardeners in China, selling fresh produce at local markets has always been in their blood. Joining the Gisborne Farmers Market was a natural return to their roots, selling straight from the paddock to the community.

Their stall is packed with seasonal goodness year round. Alongside sweetcorn, courgettes, beans and crisp lettuce, you’ll find their specialty Asian greens like bok choy, snow peas, bitter melon, snake beans, daikon and kangkong.

What sets them apart is their commitment to freshly picked, authentic Asian produce that can be hard to find elsewhere. By keeping prices fair and quality paddock-fresh, they make healthy, specialty cooking accessible for everyone.

We’re proud to celebrate vendors like Mr. and Mrs. Ng during our 20th birthday month, growers who have helped shape the heart of our market.

Stop by, say hello, and support one of the originals 🥬✨
