Abby and George Whitehead farm sheep and beef at Maranui Station, just outside Ormond. More recently, they’ve added a flock of free-range laying hens to the mix.
Their hens live in a mobile chicken caravan that is regularly moved to fresh pasture, giving them access to new grazing areas, bugs, insects, and plenty of Gisborne sunshine. This pasture-raised system allows the hens to express their natural behaviours, from foraging to dust bathing, while producing high-quality eggs.
Abby and George are passionate about animal welfare and believe that happy, healthy hens produce the best eggs. The result is eggs with rich golden-orange yolks, firm whites, and the great flavor that comes from a diverse, natural diet.
